Thr-hiving in King of Prussia
It’s not just commercial properties in KOP with low vacancy rates.
King of Prussia District’s honeybee hive is bursting at the seams in Renaissance Park, so much so that the colony was split to reactivate the hive in Moore Park which didn’t survive the winter. When inspecting the hive for the transplanted bees, our beekeeper discovered that a new queen had already made herself at home at the Moore Park hive, saving a few weeks to develop a new matriarch. The next visits by our beekeeper are July 2 and July 15. All are welcome to stop by either of our hives, in Renaissance or Moore Parks, to learn more about our bees and ask our beekeeper questions about the hive, or beekeeping in general.
This is our third year partnering with commercial beekeeping company, Alveole, to install and maintain honeybee hives for the public to view and participate in beekeeper visits or workshops to learn more about these great pollinators. The hives are in Moore Park at 1060 First Avenue next to the Linear Park, and at 2201 Renaissance Blvd. in Renaissance Park. From May until the beginning of winter, the hives grow and produce, reaching up to 50,000 inhabitants at the height of the season, all working to maintain the colony. Over the summer and fall, our beekeeper Tanner will visit every 3 weeks to inspect the hives and answer questions. Also, King of Prussia District sponsors free workshops and events associated with the hives throughout the year. Buzz on over to our bee page to see the full schedule!
