First Avenue Linear Park Lighting Project Underway
Installation of 60 additional solar-powered pedestrian lights and 16 light bollards along the First Avenue Linear Park begins this week. King of Prussia District, in partnership with Upper Merion Township, hired Hobbs & Company, Inc. to install the LED lights. It will take approximately 2 weeks to set the foundations and then the contractor will be back in July to install the fixtures.
This project is the final step in completing a continuous multimodal trail along the length of First Avenue. Construction in 2023 added three new segments to the Linear Park, linking North Gulph Road and Allendale Road. Along with 8-10ft-wide pathways, the improvements include new bus stop facilities, a precast concrete boardwalk along Trout Creek, accessible curb ramps, trash receptacles, planting beds and benches. These enhancements and amenities are open to the public and improve access along First Avenue. The new solar lighting will make the path safe and inviting, day or night.
This project is made possible with funding from King of Prussia District, Montco 2040 Implementation Grant Program, and the PA Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Multimodal Transportation Fund.
