Celebrating Improved Access in Moore Park
In 2012, King of Prussia District commissioned a study to improve pedestrian and bicycle access along First Avenue.
After 12 years, 13 grants, 5 construction projects and 17 public access agreements, the First Avenue Linear Park and First Avenue Road Diet have fulfilled their purpose, with continuous improvements and amenities from Allendale Road to North Gulph Road.
The First Avenue improvements include landscaping, accessible sidewalks, dedicated bike lanes, multimodal trails, pedestrian lights, street furnishings, programmed spaces and bus shelters. These improvements connect the business community in Moore Park to each other and to the surrounding neighborhoods. The infrastructure improvements encourage employees commuting to their offices to utilize healthier, more efficient modes of transportation while inspiring residents to travel the community safely, by foot or bike. The Linear Park will eventually link to the burgeoning trail systems in Montgomery County, including the Chester Valley Trail, Crow Creek Trail, Valley Forge Gateway Trail and the main and West Schuylkill River Trails. These future connections will continue to improve access for employees and residents.
Crucial components of the Linear Park development are the public access easements granted by 16 commercial property owners. These easements extend beyond the existing road right-of-way into private property setbacks required under the existing zoning code. Property owners donated access to these areas to enable construction of the Linear Park, and also signed maintenance agreements to ensure that the Linear Park remains well maintained, programmed and accessible to the public year around. King of Prussia District provides matching annual funding for maintenance and support for a capital reserve through its Physical Improvements program. King of Prussia District’s Marketing and Communications program keeps the park lively throughout the year with public events and activations that incorporate the Linear Park’s amenities.
Along with building and maintaining the trail, programming activities and placemaking opportunities are key in making this mixed-use district inviting for commercial tenants, residents and visitors. With the final phase of construction finishing this month, we are excited to host the First Avenue Linear Park Grand Opening on Thursday, October 10 from 4:30-6:30 PM. See details and register here.
