Bridging the Phases of First Avenue Linear Park
King of Prussia District, in partnership with Upper Merion Township, is moving forward with Phase Two of the First Avenue Linear Park. With construction of Phase One complete, the second phase extends the multimodal trail to Allendale Road in Moore Park.
Bringing the trail design to fruition involves traversing the Trout Creek bank with an innovative pre-cast boardwalk system that provides a level and accessible multimodal path with minimal impact on the waterway. The PermaTrak system includes reinforced concrete treads that lock together with a tongue and groove connection that can be designed to follow any undulating border, making it the perfect solution for the terrain. The foundations for this cantilevered boardwalk can be set on a standard abutment near the roadway while the edge protruding over the bank is stabilized on micropiles for minimal disturbance to vegetation and the creek embankment.
Upper Merion Township and King of Prussia District are recipients of grants from Governor Wolf’s Office of Budget, PA Department of Community and Economic Development and Montgomery County for constructing Phase Two of this public multimodal trail in 2021. Completion of the pedestrian pathway system in Moore Park will improve the potential for transit-oriented development and is a prime example of transportation infrastructure that will continue sustainable growth in King of Prussia.
