UMASD By the Numbers: 2026 Update

As students at Upper Merion Area School District (UMASD) returned to class last week for the 2026-27 school year, the district also marked a run of strong annual rankings and a growing budget.

UMASD continues to stand out among Pennsylvania’s public school districts. The district earned an overall 2026 Niche Grade of A and ranks #29 among the Best School Districts in Pennsylvania, based on state test scores, college readiness, graduation rates and teacher quality. UMASD also climbed to #8 out of 498 districts on Niche’s Most Diverse School Districts list, up from #16 the previous year.

For the 2026-27 school year, UMASD adopted a $145.6M General Fund budget, up 5.2% from $138.4M in 2025-26. Nearly 58% of the budget is dedicated to instruction, with instructional spending increasing by approximately $4.6M from the previous school year. Approximately 84% of UMASD’s revenue comes from local sources, primarily real estate taxes, along with earned income and real estate transfer taxes. State funding contributes 15%, while federal funding accounts for less than 1%.

Looking at the most recent enrollment data, UMASD served seven schools and approximately 4,484 students in 2025-26, a slight increase from 4,444 students in 2024-25. See enrollment by school below:

Recent graduate outcomes also highlight the district’s academic performance. Of the 293 students in the Class of 2025, 87% continued their education, enrolling at 97 colleges and universities across the country, including Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, Penn, Johns Hopkins, Northwestern, NYU, Georgia Tech, Temple and Drexel. Other graduates pursued military service or entered the workforce directly.

Since 2018, King of Prussia District has contributed $39,500 in scholarships and teacher grants supporting local students and educators.
