Now Seeking Design Proposals for the Next Piece of the Valley Forge Gateway Trail

In 2025 King of Prussia District was awarded Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program (GTRP) funding from the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which supports planning, acquisition, development, rehabilitation and repair of greenways, trails, open space, parks and beautification projects across Pennsylvania.

The award covers preliminary engineering and design for Segment 5 of the Valley Forge Gateway Trail (VFGT), a critical piece in connecting First Avenue Linear Park, Topgolf and the Village at Valley Forge/King of Prussia Town Center along North Gulph Road, through some of Upper Merion’s busiest entertainment, retail, healthcare and residential areas.

Since 2016, the District has worked alongside UMT, PennDOT, Montgomery County, Valley Forge National Historical Park and other public and private partners to advance all 7 segments of the trail through various stages of planning, design, construction and operation. The Circuit Trails Coalition, a partnership of organizations advocating for a multi-use trail network across nine counties in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, identified the Valley Forge Gateway Trail as the #1 trail segment in the region to improve access to parks and recreation and the #1 priority on the PA circuit for access to employment. In 2026, the Valley Forge Gateway Trail Partnership was formed, a coalition of public, private and community partners working together to guide the trail from planning to reality and ensure its place as a vital part of the Circuit Trails network for years to come.

With the growing momentum behind the VFGT, King of Prussia District is now accepting qualified design and engineering teams for Segment 5. The scope of work includes a public engagement process to establish a preferred trail design and route, preliminary engineering and cost estimate, documentation of existing conditions, easements and utilities, coordination with the PA Turnpike Commission for the bridge over North Gulph Road, evaluation of traffic signals at trail crossings, and preparation of public trail easements.

Proposals are due by 11 AM EST on September 29. Review the full RFP and submit a proposal here.
