A farmer-owned eatery is joining King of Prussia’s ongoing restaurant boom. Founding Farmers — majority owned by the North Dakota Farmers Union, which is made up of 47,533 family farmers — is scheduled to open in King of Prussia Town Center on November 1.
As one would expect from a family farmer¬¬¬–owned restaurant chain, Founding Farmers sources from family farms, plus does things like churn its own butter and make its own spirits. The King of Prussia location is a two-parter, with an upstairs restaurant and bar serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily and the First Bake Cafe & Creamery on the floor below serving cafe fare and house-made ice cream. Weekend brunch might wind up being the best time to go: There’s an extensive buffet for $32 a head ($16.99 for kids 7-12) with everything from biscuits and baked French toast to a pierogies cart to fried chicken.
The restaurant is part of the Farmers Restaurant Group, run by the union and restauranteurs Mike Vucurevich and Dan Simons. Their first Founding Farmers opened in Washington, D.C. in 2008 and, according to the group, it’s been the most-booked D.C. restaurant on Open Table for the last six years. Reservations are already being taken for the King of Prussia location, which is their first venture outside of the D.C.-Maryland-Virginia region and their biggest eatery at just over 14,000 square feet.
