Renaissance Park Roadway and Trail Design Underway
King of Prussia District and Upper Merion Township have officially launched the next phase of improvements in Renaissance Park.
In 2025, Boles Smyth Associates (BSA) and Chester Valley Engineers (CVE) were awarded a contract to design roadway and pedestrian enhancements along Renaissance Boulevard and Horizon Drive.
Building on the 2024 Renaissance Park Connectivity Master Plan, the project focuses on strengthening connections between commercial destinations and nearby neighborhoods. After evaluating existing conditions, traffic patterns and future development, the design team has developed a range of concepts to improve mobility and enhance the overall experience of the corridor.
At the heart of the project is a “complete streets” approach that safely accommodates pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists alike. Proposed improvements include multimodal trails, updated lane configurations, sidewalks, crosswalks and improved access to adjacent properties. Plans also explore opportunities for public amenities such as green space, landscaping, pocket parks and seating areas.
Two roadway design options are currently under consideration.
Option A includes a mix of pavement markings, trails, sidewalks, pedestrian crossings and a center turn lane, along with three potential locations for public spaces.
Option B introduces dedicated bike lanes in place of the center turn lane, offering an alternative approach to balancing traffic flow and multimodal access.
In addition, three distinct public space concepts draw inspiration from the natural landscapes of eastern Pennsylvania and the Delaware Valley.
- Piedmont Lowlands features black pines, open lawns and vibrant seating areas designed for casual gatherings and picnicking.
- Appalachian Uplands incorporates boulder seating, river birch trees and trailside elements that create a more rugged, nature-inspired setting.
- Coastal Plains reimagines an existing water basin with boardwalks, red maples and waterside seating, offering a relaxing destination with hammocks and scenic views.
On April 30, Renaissance Park stakeholders, including property owners, employees and nearby residents, gathered at Conshohocken Brewing Company’s KOP Tap House to review the concepts and share feedback. If you were unable to attend, you can and submit comments via email through May 15.
The project will now move into its next phase, where final designs will be refined and positioned for implementation through future land development and streetscape improvement projects.
