Introducing the Valley Forge Gateway Trail Partnership
If you’ve ever tried to bike or walk from Valley Forge National Historical Park to the Chester Valley Trail, you know the problem: there’s no good way to do it.
The roads are busy, the sidewalks disappear and a trip that should take twenty minutes on two wheels turns into a dangerous game of dodging traffic. That’s exactly what the Valley Forge Gateway Trail is designed to solve, and why King of Prussia District launched the Valley Forge Gateway Trail Partnership, a coalition of public, private and community organizations working together to champion one of the region’s most important trail projects.
The proposed 2.8-mile, seven-segment multiuse trail will connect the Chester Valley Trail and the Schuylkill River Trail through Upper Merion Township, creating safer, more accessible connections between neighborhoods, employers, parks, shopping destinations and Valley Forge National Historical Park. By closing one of the most significant gaps in the 500+ mile Circuit Trails network, the trail will make it easier for people to walk and bike throughout southeastern Pennsylvania while strengthening connections between communities across the region.
Made possible through support from the William Penn Foundation, the Partnership brings together local governments, businesses, nonprofits and trail advocates to build community awareness, foster collaboration and advocate for each step leading to the trail’s completion.
Once complete, the Valley Forge Gateway Trail will offer far more than a place to walk or bike around Upper Merion. It will give people more options to safely get to work, run errands or grab dinner without relying on a car, while expanding access to communities, trails and attractions throughout the Greater Philadelphia region.
