Our Guide to Family Fun in the Sun in King of Prussia
Are you running out of ideas to keep the kids entertained (and out of trouble) in the last few weeks of summer before the school bell sounds? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.
King of Prussia boasts scenic trails, beautiful parks and even a fully-operational farm, where you can take your little ones on an outdoor adventure to make more memories before summer’s end.
Take a Journey to the Past at Valley Forge Park
Whether your family is into hiking, biking or fancy yourselves history buffs, Valley Forge National Historical Park has got it all. Let the little ones unleash their energy frolicking in the open fields or take them on an educational journey through historic sites, where they’ll learn about the resilience of American soldiers during the Revolutionary War. What’s great about Valley Forge Park is that it’s not all plaques and monuments—your kiddos can climb on cannons and poke around inside authentic log cabins.
Pack a lunch, bring a blanket and make a day of wandering around the park’s twisting trails and wooded paths. There are countless sunny spots to enjoy a family meal outside. One of our favorites is the field near the National Memorial Arch.
Eat and Play at Topgolf
If you want to raise the next Tiger (or Charlie) Woods, it’s best to start your little one swinging while they’re still young. Topgolf is the perfect hybrid indoor/outdoor destination where you can soak up the sun while teeing up. The option to retreat inside for a snack and cool drink if it gets too hot is also a big plus.
Topgolf has fun and interactive games for all skill levels, so your kids will have a blast even if it’s the first time they’re picking up a club. For some added entertainment, check out the Angry Birds game, where everyone in your family can hit golf balls to smash virtual buildings, defeat pigs and earn stars.
Get a Taste of Rural Living at Nor-View Farm
Nor-View Farm in Upper Merion Township is where the wild things are–and by wild things, we mean adorable farm animals! Bring your little ones to this barnyard bonanza to see clucking chickens, ornery goats and majestic horses. The farm’s year-round animal extravaganza also includes sheep, steer, ponies and ducks.
What kid doesn’t love ice cream? Get a scoop of pure happiness for everyone in the family from Petrucci’s Ice Cream to finish out your visit. You can kick back and enjoy your frosty treat while the little ones swing and slide at the farm’s playground. Check out the Upper Merion Farmers Market Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm at Nor-View Farm if you can get everyone up, fed, dressed and out the door early enough.
Choose Your Own Adventure at Belmont Park
Belmont Park is just one of the 35 beautiful parks and open spaces in the King of Prussia area, and it has everything you need to plan a day of fun in the sun for your family. Spread across a whopping 30 acres, the park features a playground, a walking trail and a number of different fields and courts where the kids can get into some sports action. Bring your bats and balls for the baseball field, make sure your basketball is fully inflated for the court or pack everyone’s rackets to practice backhand swings at the park’s half-sized tennis court.
These are just a few of the spots in King of Prussia where you can take your kids to explore the great outdoors. For more hiking and biking options, check out the Schuylkill River Trail and the Chester Valley Trail Extension.
