Upper Merion Township Celebrates America250
As communities across the country commemorate America’s 250th birthday, Upper Merion Township is embracing the milestone with celebrations rooted in local history, civic pride and community spirit.
Through a growing lineup of projects and events, residents, businesses and visitors are invited to reflect on America’s past while looking ahead to its future.
Known for its deep Revolutionary War connections through Valley Forge National Historical Park, Upper Merion has a unique place in the nation’s story. The Township’s America250 campaign recognizes that history while creating opportunities for today’s community to participate in meaningful and memorable ways. Special commemorative programs and events will take place at Valley Forge National Historical Park on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, July 3, 4 and 5.
Upper Merion Township will also host their July 4th carnival and fireworks, which will include rides, games and live music, followed by their iconic firework show. Expect the traditional event to be bigger and better than ever for the occasion.
Additional projects include the Township’s #250Tuesday social campaign, which highlights Upper Merion’s rich history with photos and fun facts, and artistic traffic signal box wraps you’ll soon see installed throughout the Township. The artwork serves as both a public art display and a tribute to the area’s historical significance.
Upper Merion Township is also marking the United States Semiquincentennial with a mural project this fall. Artist John Lewis will replace the mural on the Colonial Electric Supply building at the corner of Henderson and Church Roads, which was originally inspired by William Trego’s iconic painting, “The March to Valley Forge.” The new mural will be an homage to the same painting using more durable materials.
King of Prussia District is showing that America250 spirit while welcoming employees, visitor and residents into King of Prussia with red, white and blue star adornments on top of the King of Prussia gateway signs and the Renaissance Park gateway sign at Church Road. Moore Park is also celebrating the country’s milestone with special festive at the First Avenue entrance. King of Prussia District is also a proud sponsor of Upper Merion Township’s America250 celebrations, including the mural project, July 4th festivities and the wrapped traffic signal boxes (look for ours outside of the Atrium on Mall Boulevard!).
Additional programs, events and initiatives are expected to roll out over the coming months as Upper Merion continues its year-long celebrations of our nation’s 250th birthday. Township leaders encourage the community to stay involved and follow updates as plans continue to evolve.
