Community Who Cares: Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery and Delaware Counties (HFHMDC), newly headquartered right here in King of Prussia, is on a mission to make housing affordability a reality for those who need it most.
Since 1989, this local organization has built homes, communities and hope, creating opportunities for homebuyers to thrive in safe housing that fits their individual needs.
HFHMDC’s core programs are designed to support low- and moderate-income families by providing opportunities for affordable homeownership. They offer a variety of services, from building new homes to providing home repairs for households in need. Their impact is profound—over the years, they’ve underwritten more than 100 mortgages and helped over 350 clients through programs like home repairs and accessibility services.
Their Home Purchase Program is a game-changer for households who might otherwise struggle to secure a traditional mortgage. The program allows borrowers to purchase homes with affordable, 0% interest loans, ensuring housing costs never exceed 30% of their gross income. It’s designed for homebuyers earning less than 80% of the area’s median income, giving them access to safe, quality homes they can truly afford.
HFHMDC also offers a Home Repair Program focused on health, safety and accessibility-related repairs. Whether it’s fixing a leaky roof or adding wheelchair ramps, they’re committed to helping homeowners stay safe and comfortable in their homes. Thanks to funding like the Whole Home Repair Program in Delaware County, they can reach even more households in need of critical home repairs.
There are many ways to help HFHMDC make a lasting impact. Whether it’s contributing time on a build site, donating items to their ReStore or providing financial support through monthly giving, every contribution makes a difference. Corporate teams can get involved too, with opportunities like Team Build Days and Corporate Sponsorships to boost community engagement and support Habitat’s mission.
HFHMDC is currently seeking teams and sponsors for Women Build 2025, an initiative that empowers women to build new skills and strengthen communities by providing safe, affordable homes. While open to all, the program, which will take place in Pottstown starting this March, focuses on creating an inclusive space for women to support each other and increase access to homeownership through fundraising and hands-on work at build sites.
