Community Who Cares: Associa Cares

Every community has people quietly working behind the scenes to catch neighbors when things go wrong.

Associa Cares is one of them: a nonprofit built to help families rebuild after disaster strikes, whether that’s a house fire down the street or a hurricane hundreds of miles away.

Founded in 2005, Associa Cares provides direct financial assistance to families facing catastrophic loss from fires, floods, tornadoes and other disasters. What started as an internal effort within the Associa family of companies has grown into a recognized charity, operating as both a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit and a registered charity in Canada. Over the past two decades, it has distributed more than $5.6 million to over 4,200 families.

What sets Associa Cares apart is the network behind it. With more than 300 branch offices across North America already contributing, the organization can respond quickly wherever disaster hits, without having to build a fundraising campaign from scratch each time. When wildfires devastated Maui in 2023, that existing network helped raise $190,000 for employees and the local Puamana community affected by the fires.

Here in King of Prussia, Associa Mid-Atlantic has helped carry that work forward for years, through annual vendor fairs at the Valley Forge Convention Center and its role in the broader Northeast Region Event Series, which brings together six Associa branches from New Hampshire to New Jersey. The 2025 tour alone raised more than $260,000, funding 108 permanent relief grants for families who lost their homes entirely.

The people behind that fundraising are the same ones who spend their days managing local associations: vendor partners, community managers and Associa employees who show up year after year. What starts as industry networking ends up as direct support for families they’ll likely never meet. And that support isn’t limited to Associa-managed communities. Any family displaced by a qualifying disaster can apply, a reminder that the fund exists to help people rebuild, not to serve as a member perk.

Associa Cares welcomes donations year-round, and local fundraising events hosted by branches like Associa Mid-Atlantic make it easy to give directly. Two decades and thousands of families later, it’s proof that small, repeated contributions add up to real relief exactly when it’s needed most.
