Upper Merion and King of Prussia District Receive Montco 2040 Implementation Grant
Upper Merion Township, in partnership with King of Prussia District, has received a 2023 Montco 2040 Implementation Grant in the amount of $200,000 for the First Avenue Linear Park Lighting Project. The grant, aimed at implementing the county comprehensive plan, Montco 2040: A Shared Vision, is one of fifteen recently awarded by the Montgomery County Commissioners. These 2023 grant awards account for nearly $2,500,000. More than $15M went to various projects since the program’s inception in 2016.
Upper Merion Township and King of Prussia District will install solar-powered pedestrian lights along the constructed First Avenue Linear Park between Allendale Road and North Gulph Road. This streetscape improvement is part of a complete streets campaign in Moore Park, formerly King of Prussia Business Park. The lighting project is the final step in completing a continuous trail along this length of roadway through an important mixed-use district and involves installing the solar lamps, light poles and concrete foundations along the recently constructed multimodal trail.
The Montco 2040 Implementation Grant Program is intended to assist municipalities in making targeted physical improvements that achieve real progress toward the goals of Montco 2040 and its themes of Connected Communities, Sustainable Places, and Vibrant Economy.
Projects were evaluated in terms of impact, county and local planning consistency, equity, project readiness, and funding attributes by a committee made up of planning commission board members and interdepartmental county staff. Projects were also given heightened consideration when addressing one of three focus categories for 2023: Walk/Bike Montco – Trails, Paths, Sidewalk Connections and Bike Facilities; Downtown and Community Destination Support; or Adaptation and Resiliency.
