Summer 2022 Update from The King of Prussia Rail Coalition
SEPTA continues to progress with KOP Rail’s Project Development activities. This work will continue through the end of 2022 and includes supporting documentation, such as a draft financial plan which will consider a wide range of potential funding sources.
SEPTA is in the process of reviewing proposals from qualified consultants for Architectural and Engineering (A&E) Services for KOP Rail’s Phase 3 Design.
This winter, SEPTA will apply to enter the engineering phase of the Capital Investment Grant program. This is an important step for the project to secure federal funding. New Starts is a discretionary and competitive federal grant program that provides approximately $2.3 billion per year in federal funding. SEPTA will seek federal funding for KOP Rail separate from other transit projects and not re-direct federal money from Philadelphia transportation needs or potential projects. Many regions have multiple projects in the New Starts program pipeline at a given time.
In anticipation of additional upcoming procurement opportunities, SEPTA hosted an Industry Forum on June 27th at the Alloy Hotel in King of Prussia. SEPTA is preparing several large and technically diverse contracts for the following opportunities:
- Final Design
- Guideway Construction
- Parking Garage Construction
- Systems Construction
- New Stations Construction
- 69th St. Transportation Center Improvements
SEPTA is also analyzing future land use opportunities around the five planned stations, including development possibilities and multi-modal connections. In Spring 2022, SEPTA held an open house series to hear from the community about what they would like the area around the stations to be like in the future. Learn more about the spring 2022 open house series and view the open house materials on the Transit-Oriented Communities page.
