Places to Hit the Ground Running in KOP

Calling all runners and wannabe runners around King of Prussia!
Maybe you’re a seasoned competitor, you were on the track team in high school or your idea of running is getting to a Macy’s sale at the mall ten minutes before closing from the first floor food court.
Whatever it takes for you to lace up your sneakers, know that King of Prussia has a vibrant running scene that is worth exploring – and believe us, it goes far beyond loops through retail centers.
First, if you have never been to Valley Forge National Historical Park, it is so much more than an important piece of history. Take the opportunity to indulge again and again in the park’s expansive, multi-terrain trails, rolling meadows and challenging “mountains” (admittedly, they are hills) that provide the most scenic and peaceful running routes around. Soaking up endless greenery and bits of local lore along the way, Valley Forge is a running destination that will make you forget you’re just pounding out miles—it will feel like an escape.
Now, if your knees are politely asking for something a little less rocky, switch up your pace and hit the Chester Valley Trail. This paved, well-maintained path slices right through King of Prussia and stretches west all the way to Exton. Whether you’re in the mood for a short loop closer to home, or a long-haul cardio adventure, the CVT delivers smooth surfaces, plenty of shade and a steady flow of fellow walkers, bikers and runners to keep the energy up.
Want to go further? Meet the Schuylkill River Trail, a trail so ambitious it’ll take you straight into Philadelphia if you let it. Connected to the Chester Valley Trail, the SRT is ideal for distance training, long weekend runs or just mixing up the view every once in a while. Paved and picturesque, it runs for 120+ miles with countless access points and a never-ending riverside view. Insider tip: This is where (more) serious runners often go to test themselves, and casual runners can go to feel inspired.
Speaking of testing yourself, the best part about running is finding others to count the miles with. If you’re looking to get competitive, KOP has some awesome races every year: The Queen of Prussia 10K & 5K is a women-led celebration every September, complete with mentoring, community vibes and post-run festivities; the Valley Forge Tourism & Convention Board’s Valley Forge Revolutionary 5-Mile Run is a springtime race that winds through the park’s iconic grounds – part fundraiser, part fitness challenge and all-around one of the most scenic and meaningful races in the region. Mark your calendars for these two, but keep your eyes peeled—and your sneakers laced—for even more local races popping up throughout the year. Prefer to keep things casual? No shame in that. While King of Prussia doesn’t have an official run club (yet), local spots like Road Runner Sports and Nike often post group run info and training events. Don’t worry if this all sounds a little fast-paced–we know you might just be warming up.
In the end, whether you’re reading this guide to run your first mile or your 50th, know that no matter which path you take for your running journey, King of Prussia has the places and the overall atmosphere—full of energy, nature and community—for anyone around to hit the ground running and truly enjoy it.
