10 Years of Engaging the Community
Throughout the past ten years, King of Prussia District has created a culture of exciting events aimed at bringing together community members and making King of Prussia a premiere live-work-play destination. Take a trip through the evolution of our events from year one to today!
Business Networking
Naturally, the first events we launched had a strong focus on the business community. Bringing together local elected officials and business leaders for networking opportunities set the stage for a more cohesive business environment, ripe with strategic partnerships. Beginning in 2011 with quarterly, evening mix-and-mingle events at different restaurants and event venues, these events have evolved through the years, shift to a daytime format. We introduced a fall breakfast speaker event focusing on innovative and engaging topics pertinent to our community, and a spring luncheon to release our Annual Report to the Community each year.
This year, we are hosting an evening gala in celebration of our 10-year anniversary, complete with an awards program honoring those who played an integral role in KOP’s development over the past ten years. We are also excited to debut an event series in conjunction with Workhorse Brewing Company and Upper Merion Township’s Economic and Community Development Committee (ECDC) called Growth Mindset. These evening speaker events will bring together one person from a large and one person from a small business to take part in a moderated discussion around a particular topic.
Rock Your Lunch Summer Concerts
This summer concert series began in 2013 and incorporated live music and King of Prussia restaurants offering free samples to guests who took a break from their desks in the middle of the work day. Crowds of 200-300+ came out to the front lawn of Arkema in Moore Park on Thursdays in June and July and enjoyed a little sunshine and some truly rockin’ local music. Last year we retired the series after six wonderful years of live music on your lunch break.
King of Prussia Beerfest Royale
Without a doubt, our largest event in terms of attendance and scale, King of Prussia Beerfest Royale is our signature event and will celebrate its 8th year in 2020. With crowds of 2,500+ people, Beerfest attracts crowds from the Philadelphia area and beyond to spend two days enjoying the best food KOP has to offer and a whole lot of beer. Featuring live music, beautiful landscaping, 50+ beers, games and more all under grand tents in the King of Prussia Mall parking lot, this event has remained a staple and one of our most highly anticipated events of the year.
Yoga Happy Hour
In 2014 we launched one of our most popular event series, Yoga Happy Hour. For the first two years, we partnered with StillPoint Yoga Studios, Lululemon and Wegmans to produce the event, which took place in the King of Prussia business Park, now Moore Park. In 2016, the event moved to Valley Forge Casino Resort to accommodate growing crowds. The series moved again in 2017 to King of Prussia Town Center, where we worked with restaurant tenants for happy hour promotions. Here the event truly thrived, attracting hundreds of Yogis every Tuesday evening. We were blown away by the attendance at this event, bringing hundreds of Yogis every Tuesday evening. After two successful years, we handed the management of this event over to King of Prussia Town Center, where the program is still widely popular.
King of Prussia Restaurant Week & KOP Shops for CHOP
King of Prussia Restaurant Week was the brain-child of area restaurants who wanted a way to not only increase business during the slower months of early spring, but also to tie in a charitable component to a traditional restaurant week. Originally known as dineKOP, the idea was brought to King of Prussia District and we turned it into a reality in 2015. In order to keep our beneficiary of the event local, we decided that a portion of all proceeds would go to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, which had recently opened a King of Prussia Specialty Care & Surgery Center. Attracting thousands of people from all over the area, our first several years were quite successful. In 2018, we expanded the event and invited retailers to join us for a shopping event benefitting CHOP running the same week called KOP Shops for CHOP. In 2019, we rebranded the event to King of Prussia Restaurant Week and were excited to have a record year, raising $54,500 for CHOP, bringing the grand total donation over five years to $112,500. In 2020, we introduced a way for businesses to support us in our efforts to raise money through CHOP through our new Community Champion program. We are excited to continue growing this event through the years to come.
Food Truck Tuesdays
Introduced in 2018 as a single-day event, the success of our first Food Truck Tuesday allowed us to turn this into a 4-event series in 2019, and then an 8-event series in 2020. This roving outdoor event brings food trucks, live music, giant yard games and sponsor vendors to large corporate center parking lots throughout King of Prussia. Taking place during the lunch hour from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM, Food Truck Tuesdays are a wonderful way to enjoy the sunshine and break up the work day. Over the past three years, we welcomed 200-400 KOP area employees and residents per event.
We at King of Prussia District feel strongly that these events contribute to a greater sense of community and are an important part of keeping this area vibrant with activity. Through an ever-evolving event roster, we make it a priority to keep King of Prussia events fun and exciting, and are always looking for new ways to improve year over year.
