Community Who Cares: The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration

At King of Prussia District, we’re proud to spotlight local organizations that are creating meaningful change in our community.
This month, our Community Who Cares series highlights The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD), a national nonprofit based right here in King of Prussia that is making a powerful impact for families affected by a lesser-known, but deeply devastating condition.
Founded in 2002, AFTD is the leading organization dedicated to addressing frontotemporal degeneration (FTD), the most common form of dementia for people under 60. FTD is a group of brain disorders that affect personality, behavior and language, often striking individuals in the prime of their lives. The effects ripple through entire families, causing emotional, financial and caregiving challenges that can last years. AFTD’s mission is to improve the quality of life for those impacted by FTD and drive research for a cure.
From their headquarters in King of Prussia, AFTD serves as a lifeline for thousands of individuals and families across the country. The organization provides critical support through educational resources, support groups, a HelpLine and direct assistance for caregivers. They also invest in cutting-edge research, advocate for awareness on Capitol Hill and fund early-career scientists focused on finding treatments and ultimately a cure. AFTD’s work has helped transform the landscape of support and understanding for a disease that, until recently, remained largely in the shadows.
We are proud to have such a passionate and impactful organization as part of our local community. AFTD embodies the spirit of compassion, perseverance and hope — and reminds us how powerful a difference a small group of dedicated individuals can make.
