Community Who Cares: Montgomery County Guild of Professional Artists
In our Community Who Cares series we highlight local nonprofits in King of Prussia and Upper Merion whose work enriches our community, and the Montgomery County Guild of Professional Artists (MCGOPA) is one of those gems.
Since its founding in 1996 by three artist friends, MCGOPA has spent decades connecting artists with each other and with the public to nurture creativity, build community and grow appreciation for the fine arts.
MCGOPA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides a platform for local artists to exhibit their work, learn from peers and collaborate on projects. Members enjoy opportunities to participate in group exhibitions, shows, workshops and lectures that deepen skills and expand artistic perspectives. The guild also works to educate the public about the value of original art and to make creative expression a visible part of life in our region.
One way MCGOPA brings art to the broader community is through exhibitions that showcase a wide range of styles, mediums and voices. A recent example is the “Inspire-Transform-Connect” exhibit at the 431 Art Gallery in the Upper Merion Community Center. The show features paintings, mixed media works, photography and fiber art by 20 area guild member artists, offering the public a chance to see how visual art reflects individual experience and collective culture.
Aside from large exhibits, MCGOPA hosts open juried shows that invite both members and non‑members to share their work with the public, expanding artistic inclusion and providing real world exhibition opportunities. These events support local creators by giving them experience in presenting their pieces professionally while engaging neighbors in the beauty and power of art.
For people who love art or want to support local creativity there are many ways to get involved. You can visit exhibitions, attend receptions, talk with artists and consider joining the guild if you are an artist yourself. Support from the community helps MCGOPA continue its mission of making art accessible and inspiring for all.
Montgomery County Guild of Professional Artists reminds us that art is not only something to admire but something that brings people together, opens minds and strengthens the cultural fabric of our community.
