Community Who Cares: Love Works Resource Center

In King of Prussia, compassion has a home at Love Works Resource Center, a nonprofit that has grown from a simple idea into a lifeline for families across Montgomery County.
Rooted in the belief that “love works,” the organization provides a unique blend of practical support and creative healing, reminding the community that help can come not just through meeting physical needs but also by nurturing the human spirit.
The center’s story traces back to 2006, when Pastor George Searfoss of Hope Community Church challenged his congregation to spend a “Summer of Love,” living out compassion in tangible ways. Though Pastor George has since passed, his vision lives on in the work of Love Works, which continues to embody that message year after year. Today, the center remains entirely volunteer-driven, powered by donations and neighbors who believe in caring for one another.
At its core, Love Works meets essential needs. Through its food pantry, families in Montgomery County can access fresh produce and shelf-stable groceries, ordered online and picked up in a way that preserves dignity and convenience. For more than 25 years, its clothing ministry, affectionately known as The Clothing Penn, has offered free, high-quality apparel for all ages, from everyday outfits to professional wear. Created in memory of Joan Penner and carried forward by her family and volunteers, this resource has become a trusted place where residents can find not only clothes but also kindness.
What sets Love Works apart is its commitment to addressing the whole person. Beyond food and clothing, the center offers creative arts and music therapy programs led by credentialed clinicians. These workshops provide families with opportunities for emotional growth, social connection and healing through expression. The Neil C. Patel Creative Arts Program, supported by the NEILSTRONG Foundation, stands as a testament to this vision, honoring the life of a vibrant young man with a passion for art and community. Through this initiative, children and families who might not otherwise have access to therapeutic arts find joy, comfort and hope.
Every program and service at Love Works reflects its grassroots spirit. Volunteers sort donations, pack food boxes, welcome families into the clothing room and help facilitate arts activities. Their dedication ensures that every visitor experiences not just assistance, but care. Whether it’s a child walking away with a backpack of supplies, a parent picking up groceries for the week or a family sharing in the joy of a music therapy session, each interaction at Love Works is a reminder that community thrives when neighbors choose to serve one another.
For those who want to make a difference, the center offers many ways to get involved. Donations of food, clothing, art supplies and financial support are all vital to keeping programs strong, while volunteering brings the mission to life.
Love Works Resource Center is a living testament to the power of compassion, proof that when love is put into practice, it can transform not only individuals but entire communities. In spotlighting Love Works, we celebrate an organization that has turned a simple idea into a powerful force for good, reminding us all that in King of Prussia, love truly does work.
