Alliance Speaker Series: Role of the Oneida in the American Revolution

October 1, 2018

The Speaker Series is presented by the Valley Forge Park Alliance in cooperation with the Washington Memorial Chapel and presents an array of historians, scientists, authors, archeologists, actors, and performers to share with the public their multiple points of view on history, the natural world, and the ongoing commemoration of Valley Forge. Presentations are held at Washington Memorial Chapel, on Route 23 in Valley Forge. A complimentary reception follows each talk.

This month’s speaker features Ron Patterson, born on September 4, 1969 in Gowanda New York, son to Ronald W. Patterson (Seneca Nation, Deer Clan) and Brenda Patterson (Oneida Nation, Wolf Clan). Ron grew up on the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation, home to eight thousand Seneca Indians.

Ron currently manages the Shako:wi Cultural Center providing education about the history of the Oneida Indian Nation. This role made it possible for him to teach the lost art of the ancient artisans. Today, he has made it his responsibility to educate the public and interested parties about the culture and history of the Oneida people and the important contributions the Haudenosaunee have made over time
